Grad Ben Talks is an annual day of “TED-talk” style presentations by Penn Arts and Sciences graduate students representing the Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Professional Master’s programs. More information can be found here: https://www.sas.upenn.edu/grad-ben-talks
Applications for student presentations are currently open! The deadline for submissions is January 24th, 2020 at close of business.
If you need inspiration for giving a Ben Talk, check out some of our very own sociologists and demographers in action!
Additionally, SASgov recruits judges from the faculty of all different departments to help award prizes for each panel, in which judges judge students outside of their own disciplines (i.e. a natural scientist would judge a humanities presentation). We also recruit a small number of student judges.
The commitment for judging is:
-A short webinar on judging protocol
-On February 21st: 1 hour of viewing presentations followed by up to 20 minutes of discussion after.
Please email your department’s SASgov representative (Sam Love: samlove@sas.upenn.edu) if you are interested in finding out more. Also email Sam if you are interested in being a student judge, or know of any faculty who might be interested in serving as a judge.
