Mini-Conference
Call for submissions
In preparation for the 65th meeting of the American Sociological Association taking place August 17-21, 2023 in Philadelphia, PA, the Graduate Sociology Society at the University of Pennsylvania and Sociology Graduate Students at Temple University invite fellow doctoral students to a Philadelphia Area Graduate Student Mini-Conference. The conference will take place March 16-17, 2023 at the University of Pennsylvania main campus in Philadelphia.
We invite Sociology doctoral students at any stage of their program to participate by
submitting works in progress for either 1) paper presentation panels or 2) roundtable
discussions.
We hope this conference will act as a space to develop inter-institutional graduate student relationships, foster greater networking and collaborating, and provide students who expect to present at ASA an opportunity to share their works in progress in a collegial, constructive, and supportive environment.
While we encourage participants and attendees from doctoral students at all stages of their degree, priority for paper panels will be given to students who have submitted to present at ASA. However, works submitted to roundtable discussion sessions do not need to have been submitted to ASA. Sessions will be organized according to subject and methodological themes, with an eye toward encouraging institutional diversity.
Submission procedures
Interested students should submit their abstracts for panel and/or roundtable sessions through the linked application form. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and should include research question(s), methodological approach, and any findings.
The deadline for presenter applications is: Noon EST, Friday 24 March 2023
We also welcome suggestions for relevant professional development sessions from fellow doctoral students.
Acceptances will be sent out by early April. Please note that all submissions will be reviewed by a review committee and not all submissions may be accepted.
There are no registration fees for presenters or attendees. However, participants are
expected to cover their own travel and accommodation fees.
